Scenes from last night’s picnic and a movie with Newport Film at Ocean Cliff Hotel in Newport, RI. The evening could not have been more perfect for the last outdoor screening of the season. The air was crisp and ideal for bundling up with sweaters and plaid blankets. For the past four years Kiel and I have been a picnic judge for the event. This year’s theme was “Posen & Plaid” in honor of the featured  Zac Posen documentary House of Z Designer and film subject Zac Posen (Project Runway, Creative Director for Brooks Brothers Women’s wear) and film director Sandy Chronopoulos were present after the screening for a Q&A.
The last outdoor screening (usually a fashion focused film)  is always one of my favorite events and a great way to end the summer. People usually arrive early to set up their picnics, socialize, and enjoy the live music. There are always so many beautiful picnic presentations that it can be hard to choose a winner. I shared a few images from my favorites. If you are local or plan to be in the area next summer I highly recommend attending one of Newport Film’s free summer outdoor movie nights.

This reminds me of Tanglewood (the BSO's summer campus) in Lenox, MA. The history of picnicking there is so rich – there's even a book on it! You can also join the Competitive Picnic League if you're passionate about picnic food. I'll have to add picnicking in Newport to my summer "to do" list one year!

Stunning photos of a beautiful event but I have to ask, is that a snake around (your husband's?) neck????? Wow, very brave bunch. I hate to say it but I would be shrieking and likely to disturb one of the beautiful reception tables.

Anyway, I was hoping there would be a caption explaining the snake! :o) I love everything about this mind you, in spite of the snake! x

Thank you! It really is a beautiful event! It's not a real snake. It was a prop that looks pretty realistic.
