Friday Finds – Packing for Sea Island

Next week we are heading to Sea Island, Georgia for a little fun in the sun. I’m looking forward to getting away for a few days. March has been off to a very wintery start. “In like a lion …”Fingers crossed for the second half of that sentiment.

This week’s edition of my Friday finds features some of the pieces that I’ve recently purchased for this trip. The sandals are a replacement for a similar pair I basically wore every day last summer (see here and here). This style tends to look great with everything and also happens to be really comfortable.  The trunk was recently gifted to me from Steamline Luggage. Their pieces are so beautiful! I’m excited to use this one for my getaway. As the weather will be in the high 60’s I’m packing dresses, light jackets, and sweaters. I like pieces that are interchangeable so that it is easy for me to pack less. Most of my suitcase space will go to Harry. It’s amazing how much I need to bring for the little one when traveling.

Question to all of you mama’s out there — What is the best car seat/stroller combo for traveling? We have the Stokke Nuna car seat and the Stokke Trailz stroller but the stroller is way too big to fly with. It takes up a lot of space in our car and I wouldn’t want to damage it by stowing it under the plane. (I love it for home). It’s also a pain to lug the car seat through the airport without wheels. Any suggestions on good travel strollers that would be compatible with a Nuna car seat? Do you bring the base with you when flying? Would love to hear some tips from moms!

A basic umbrella stroller is ideal for air-travel. At check-in, the airline staff will bag your car seat and check it for you.

I’m a huge fan of the umbrella stroller!!! That’s all I used once the kids were big enough to sit up.

I just flew alone w/7 month old and didn't bring a car seat at all, which was awesome. I took baby through airport in a baby carrier and was thrilled when they didn't require me to take it off in security (I think this can depend on the airport/terminals). You can always rent a car seat in your rental car on the other side. Our Chicco Liteway stroller lays totally flat, was inexpensive, and has endured many flights, on to the second kiddo now. All the straps are adjustable and a baby about 6 months should fit just fine in it!

Uppababy G-Luxe! We also have the travel bag to protect it when they check it at the gate!

We use the Uppababy G-Lite for traveling and Uppababy Cruz at home. The G-Lite has a mesh back which is great for those hot summer days anywhere. I echo the support for their travel bags. I've also heard good things about the Pockit Lightweight Stroller that folds down to nothing. Don't bring your carseat. Make arrangements with the rental car or arrange a carseat with a rideshare or concierge.

The folks at 'Car Seats for the Littles' have *amazing* resources for travelling with babies and little kids. Absolutely take your car seat, and take it on the plane. Rental company carseats are unknown history, you have no idea how they've been treated, cleaned, if they've been subject to recalls, if they're expired etc. And once you check a carseat, even gate check – same thing. They get tossed about. Many carseats are 'replace after any accident' – well, falling off the carts, being thrown in with the luggage, knocked around by the luggage – its the equivalent. And if you wouldn't have a lap baby in a car going 30mph, why on earth would someone fly at much higher speeds with a lap baby? In an accident, the baby would become an airbag. Turbulence? Just not worth it with something so precious.

Loving the Friday pics – that gingham bag is adorable.

First off, the 60’s on Sea Island is still chilly with the breeze. We were there for a wedding and I was wayyy under dressed for the cold. As far as traveling with a stroller it looks like you have a company offering you something really nice. I personally took my favorite stroller and then would check it at the gate before takeoff. That way my car seat snapped in through all the airport hassle and we had it for our connection. That way I could wheel my little man around keeping him entertained, store the diaper bag underneath as we walked, and avoided disturbing him if he fell asleep.
One thing to keep in mind, strollers and car seats can be the first thing off at the gate or the last thing off. But a bag to protect your stuff is nice, however it becomes one more thing to add to your chaos. Practice opening and collapsing everything before you get to the airport too!
Good luck, it will be great!

This was one of our best purchases!

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00R3KXSPY/ref=mp_s_a_1_3_s_it/145-5198002-9899955?ie=UTF8&qid=1521165537&sr=1-3&keywords=sit+n+stroll

They used to be sold thru those in-flight catalogs. You can literally push it down the plane aisle to your row and it’s sized to fit in the seat (you just have to put it next to the window for emergency exit reasons.). Especially helpful when you have more children, fly alone, and/or have quick transfers without the time to wait for a gate checked stroller (which doesn’t always come out at the gate- we definitely had ours end up at baggage claim more than once.)

Also- the car seats at rental car agencies are often old, dirty and not the right size- I think this paid for itself for the number of times we didn’t have to rent one.

Good luck! You will miss these days!! XO

I actually have a different recommendation. Instead of a stroller (which I found to be a pain in the neck to travel with) I would wrap Rosalie in a wrap from Ergo or Boba. I also had a strap carrier too for her father which I also wore too. I loved it cause she was comfortable, less fussy on trips & the most important part I had 2 free hands. Car seat is a free checked item for most airlines. Hope this help.
    Have a fantastic trip
