Shop Small
This time of year I love heading to Newport to visit my favorite shop Cottage & Garden. It’s my go to place to stock up on topiaries, terra-cotta pots, and unique pieces for the home and garden. The baskets featured in the second photo came home with me on one of my shopping trips last April. I always love bringing in new plants and spring pieces to freshen up my home early spring. Like most non-essential stores, Cottage & Garden is closed for the unforeseeable future. I follow along the shop’s Instagram account where they are offering appointments for curbside pickups for any items featured in their images. It felt very strange to order a bunch of new plants for the house over text message and DM but I was really happy to have the opportunity to do so. I met the owner outside to pay for everything while still maintaining a social distance. This transaction was just another small event that set home the surrealness of our current situation. Today I wanted to highlight a few of my favorite small businesses. If you are local I highly suggest checking out Cottage & Garden. The rest can be found online.
Nicola Bathie Designs: Nicola Bathie has the most beautiful assortment of earrings. She combines a variety of elements and motifs that include pearls, flowers, insects, wicker, and cameos to create pieces that are truly one of a kind. Follow her account @NicolaBathieJewelry to see her latest jewelry pieces and @NicolaBathieMcLaughlin for gorgeous interior design inspiration.

Pamela Munson: Straw bag season is upon us, not that it truly ever went away. Pamela Munson offers a beautiful array of high-quality straw bags in different shapes and sizes. While there are a number of straw bag options these days, Pamela Munson sets her designs apart from the rest by redefining the classic straw bag through the use of materials that include pearls, leather, grosgrain ribbon, and tortoise. I always look forward to seeing what she will come out with next.

Coral & Tusk: For years I have been in love with the whimsical embroidered designs by Coral & Tusk. See a past post with a little more background on the company featured here. They recently came out with the Coastal Collection and it is perfectly New England. 10% of the proceeds from the new collection will go towards organizations that protect and restore the world’s oceans. In addition to the items linked above they offer fabric by the yard, wall art, table runners, and other textile home goods to name a few. Seeing each design really makes me wish I had a beach house to decorate!

Sarah Flint: I’ve partnered with Sarah Flint on a couple of posts this year and truly love the line. See posts here, here, and here. These Italian made shoes are meant for women who love a classic, elegant design that is also comfortable to wear around town. The block heel sandal is their latest release and definitely one I can see myself living in this summer. Featured image is from the brand’s latest marketing campaign. I can’t get over that fluffy pup!

How about Shore Soap! It’s the best. As a soap maker I think their product is superior and I love the whimsical names and fragrant they give their soaps.

This is great, Sarah! I love shopping small, and do so every chance I can. I have been more intentional about doing it now because it is the small businesses that need help!! Hope you and your family are doing well! 🙂
