This year Kiel and I attended the Kentucky Derby on behalf of Mass Mutual who sponsored my trip. Our weekend at Churchill Downs was gorgeous aside from the rain on Saturday. My absolute favorite part of the Derby is the people watching and mint juleps. It’s amazing to see so many people in one place dressed up so beautifully. It’s like stepping back in time. The hats are a lot of fun too! I picked up both of my hats from Rodes Louisville. They have an amazing selection from Christine A. Moore who is a featured milliner of the Kentucky Derby. Getting the hats home was a challenge but I somehow managed to do it without crushing either one.
If you haven’t been to the Derby and plan to attend in the future, I highly recommend wearing comfortable shoes. Kiel and I did a lot of walking over the course of the weekend. I brought two pairs of sandals that I knew I could walk around in. Many women wore flats, espadrilles,  wellies (for the infield), and sneakers. I actually saw a good number of sneaker/dress combos. Comfort is the key to a successful Derby weekend.

    Beautiful photos!
Love that you hung out with the Ninkovich couple!
Fun fact: Cupcake Charlie’s had a cupcake named after Rob called the twixovich. I don’t know of any other Patriot that had their own cupcake!

Thank you! This is Matt and Susie Light. They are friends of ours. Matt is a former Patriot. What a great fun fact!
