Reading Room Makeover
Ever since I was little I have always wanted a room filled with books and my own cozy reading nook. The den in our house (featured in these pictures) fulfills that childhood goal of mine. We recently updated the space in collaboration with Sunbrella and I love the way it came together.
We painted the oak book shelves the same color as the room’s trim, added custom new Sunbrella curtains in Dimple Sand, a new Ballard Designs reading chair made from one of my favorite Sunbrella fabrics, replaced our wood coffee table with a glass one, and added custom Sunbrella fabric pillows to our leather couch. I also restyled our bookshelves and added comfy new Sunbrella lounger dog beds for my pups from The Houndry. They love the new addition! Bennie and Maple each have their own bed.
The reading chair is a beloved new addition to the room. I find myself heading over to it in the morning to relax with a glass of iced coffee and catch up on emails. This room always has the best morning light! I also love to enjoy a good book here whenever the opportunity presents itself. The chair is spacious and the fabric soft and comfortable. White fabric is always a bold choice, but in my experience Sunbrella fabrics are easy to clean and long-lasting. I have accidentally spilled my iced coffee on the chair and was happy to find that there were no issues with cleaning it.
To bring the room together, I had custom pillows made in a variety of Sunbrella fabrics including Robins Stripe Azure, Rienzo Indigo, Botanical Spa and Floral Cornflower to complete the space. They added a nice pop of color and I love the variety of textures and patterns. Sunbrella has a wide offering of fabrics that can be found on Ballard Designs website, including the Dimple Sand fabric that I used to have the curtains made. Both the pillows and curtains can go through the wash and be air dried when necessary. My main criteria for all of the rooms in my house is that they feel lived in and loved. This will be a room for my family and I to enjoy now and in the years to come.
