Under the Tuscan Sun

Snapshots from Tuscany — Kiel and I spent all of last week exploring the gorgeous Tuscan countryside. I did not expect there to be so many sunflower fields in the region. It felt like every road we turned down had another field. Up on the hillside of the villa we rented, a little outside of Cortona, we could see all of  the plots of gold from a distance. It was a special sight to behold.

We rented this vintage blue Fiat for a couple of days. It was a little scary driving the car along some of the windy steep roads in the area as manual cars are always a bit of a challenge on hills. The experience was well worth it.  I loved every second of exploring Cortona in this little car. It was a great way to take in the area with our friends Kat and Jeremy. We stopped at the Il Falconiere, a Relais & Chateau Resort, for lunch. It was right down the street from where we were staying. If you visit the area I highly recommend it. The grounds are beautiful to explore, the food was amazing, and the hotel has a resident dog Jacko that sat by our feet during our meal.

There was a very important Baroque artist from Cortona, Pietro Berrettini, called Pietro da Cortona. If you ever get to Rome, go see his great ceiling fresco in the Palazzo Barberini.

Well, next time you’re in Tuscany, you can also see his work in the Pitti Palace in Florence.

The car! And oh, the dress! I’ve traveled those roads in a large van and can tell you a small car would feel safer (and score many more cute points). Have fun!

I will def agree that the Fiat will score more cute points! The car is as cute as it gets. While it was great for narrow roads it was really scary to drive up the hills. There always needs to be a bit of momentum to get up the hill. All in all we had a blast!
