The Sweetheart Dress

Last week Kiel and I spent a great deal of time preparing for our annual Kiel James Patrick Valentine’s Day shoot and the launch of our Sweetheart Dress Collection. Our new bow shift dress comes in three different colors — blue, pink, and mint green. The bows are detachable for a subtle look. I personally love the way the dresses look when worn with our Audrey Necklace. In the past there has been a lot of feedback from customers that our dresses are too short. We kept this in mind and made this shift dress a little longer. The models in this shoot are 5’9 for reference.

We shot at an iconic Rhode Island location, the Squantum Club. Winter in New England is always a tough time of year to plan a photoshoot as the weather can be really unpredictable. We planned for most of our shoot to be indoors in the Clubhouse — plenty of gorgeous lighting with a timeless backdrop. The property overlooks Narragansett Bay on three sides and the view is always a welcome sight. For many of our shoots we always put together inspiration ahead of time and usually wind up just working off the models, props, and scenery. I find that the scenery itself almost always inspires a photo.

    I’m sorry, but I think the length is still far too short. As a result — and in combination with the style — the dresses look as though they were designed for small children. I’d love to see one on my 6-year-old niece — I think it would be adorable — but not on my 25-year-old cousin.
