Spring Staple: The Blazer

Blazers from Top to Bottom: J.Crew (similar here and here), Kate Spade (similar), Ralph Lauren (similar), J.Crew, J.Crew (found a size 4 on Ebay), Ralph Lauren
Dressing for the in between season is always a challenge. It’s far too cold for official spring clothes but the thought of bundling up in another heavy sweater and a pair of winter boots fills me with dread. Living in New England my everyday attire during the winter has become some version of a sweater, jeans, and boots. I really miss dressing up and wearing shoes without socks. Once the snow officially melts, blazers become a big part of my everyday uniform. It’s basically a light coat that can be worn all day — it really completes the look of almost any outfit. I love wearing my blazers over dresses, springy blouses, light cable knit sweaters, or casually with jeans and loafers. It’s a staple that I tend to wear from early April right through September. There are so many beautiful options including multi-colored tweed and pastel linens. While I enjoy having a little variety in my wardrobe a classic Navy blazer with gold buttons will always be my go to. My long blazer from Ralph Lauren is one of the pieces that I turn to again and again.  It elevates every single one of my looks whether it be dressy or casual. I always feel my best when I have it on.
When shopping for blazers I always make sure I’m content with the length and overall fit in the shoulders. I stray away from anything that is too boxy. I wear my blazers fitted and either on the longer side or cropped. Sometimes an in between length can look really awkward if it’s a tad too long to be cropped. I guess a good example of this would be the mini blazers that were really big in the early 2000’s. If you watched the OC you might know what I’m referring to. I don’t shop at J.Crew as often these days but I’ve always liked the quality and price of their blazers. The length is almost always perfect and they tend to use nice buttons. Buttons are a deal breaker for me when it comes to blazers. I either love gold buttons or a quality tortoise button.

I totally agree – blazers are my go to year round! I love having classic ones (navy, beige, grey) and also some fun patterns (plaid, gingham, seersucker). I also have a huge thing with buttons- they make or break the blazer. I’ll often change the buttons to get the perfect ones!

I wholeheartedly agree. Spring is a season that is very very tricky . I don’t know what the heck to wear! I get the same feeling in Autumn. I know I can’t ditch the boots fast enough, but its too soon. I think transitioning with a Vest over some sort of a cashmere sweater is good. (I’m in Canada & it is still cold).
