Winter Date Night

For my birthday this year I really wanted to go ice skating. I’ve never skated professionally but I’ve always loved skating whether it be on ice or at a roller rink. When I found out that Gurney’s in Newport not only has a skating rink but also a Harry Potter themed igloo I knew what my plans would be — it turned out to be a wonderful opportunity for a birthday date night.
We ended up having the rink to ourselves as it was midweek and very chilly. The Christmas lights decorating the nearby lighthouse and the lit up Newport Bridge made for a gorgeous backdrop. We arrived right at sunset which is always a magical hour. After skating we warmed up in the igloos with prosecco and light apps while enjoying a round of Harry Potter trivia. The trivia questions were much more difficult than I would have expected! Gurney’s has six different igloos. Every igloo has its own theme complete with games, decor, and music. I was hoping that it would also include a special menu but perhaps next year! One of the themes is Tropical Summer, and another Winter Wonderland for reference. Each igloo accommodates up to six people. It’s a really fun way to spend a winter evening. I would love to return again this winter with a group of friends. So far we have been twice this season as we also held our company Christmas party here.
I wanted to make note that this post is not sponsored. I really recommend this experience for a fun winter outing if you live in Rhode Island or simply plan to visit. In either case definitely make sure to call ahead for the igloos as they book up quickly, especially on weekends. Igloos are rented for $25 per person and 100% of this money is donated to Big Brothers and Sisters of Rhode Island. The Ice Skating rink is open until March 1st and the Igloos are available until February 29th.

I love this so much! My husband and I try to get out to Newport a few times a year, but we haven’t visited in ages! I’m extra motivated now!
