Meet the newest addition to our family — a flock of baby Isa Brown chickens. Kiel and I have wanted to raise chickens for a while and now seemed like the perfect time to finally do it. Some of my fondest early childhood memories were spent at my grandmother’s house helping her feed her pet chickens and rabbits. We are excited to provide these memories for Harry. I’ve really been enjoying warm weekend days sitting on the lawn watching the chicks roam and explore, Harry and Bennie always a few steps behind them. It’s a great way to relax and live in the moment.
When we made the decision to get the chicks we had no concerns about Bennie. She is the most gentle mother hen, the chicks love snuggling into her for warmth. It is the cutest sight to witness. Our cat on the other hand has no idea the chicks exist and we intend to keep it that way. They are kept in a separate part of the house, far away from her, while we wait for our chicken coop to be complete and the weather to warm up.
The chicks are growing fast. It’s amazing to see how much they change each day. Their fluffy bodies have quickly sprouted white and brown feathered wings. They are in the awkward in between stage at the moment. While I will miss the cuteness of them being chicks I’m really excited to see them develop their personalities. We are loving this new adventure. It comes with a little bit of work but we find it very rewarding. Excited to share more of our adventures and our completed chicken coop in future posts.

Bennie is just the best dog! She is not even mine but I do love her! I have enjoyed watching her grow up and now she is a mom herself to these cute chicks. Thanks for sharing!
