Reading is My Happy Place

My ideal Sunday afternoon is spent feeling cozy at home with a good book and a pet or two at my side. This does not happen as often as I would like but I cannot think of a better way to relax before the start of a new week.

I recently read and enjoyed Leigh Himes debut novel The One That Got AwayIt’s an unconventional love story about missed opportunities and second chances. The heroine of the story, Abbey Lahey, gets a chance to live out the life that could have been and gains a fresh perspective on the only life she has ever known. If you love Sophie Kinsella novels, this is just the book for you.

I’m currently reading Tommy Hilfiger: American Dreamer, My Life in Fashion and Business. I was excited to receive an early release of this book from the Tommy Hilfiger team. In the book Tommy Hilfiger shares his personal life story and the successes and failures he encountered while building a global fashion brand. I typically love memoirs and and I’m especially inspired by the special insight that an icon like Tommy Hilfiger can offer to those in the industry.

Nothing compares to having a real good book in hand. I mean this both literally and figuratively. For these moments Quarterlane is a great subscription service that curates a small selection of the best books of the season (amongst other goodies), and delivers them right to your door. New offerings are available every 3 months. The business was started by fellow Rhode Islander, Elizabeth Lane, who turned a love of reading into a career as a “literary taste taster.” This would be a great holiday gift for the book lover in your life!

I’m always looking for the next good book to read. Would love to hear some of your favorites!

I highly recommend The Whiskey Rebels by David Liss it's a historical adventure that takes you back to our fledgling years as a nation with a witty, charismatic anti-hero. The banter is fun, the deceptions intriguing and the storyline has historical accuracy to it. When this book was recommended to me I turned my nose up at its seemingly dry, uninteresting subject matter. But after so many people assured me it was a witty clever, classic I finally caved and wound up loving this novel. You won't regret this it!

I really loved "The Light Between Oceans" and if you are a Gilmore Girls fan I would recommend Lauren Graham's novel "Someday, Someday Maybe" it was a light and fun read and you can definitely see Lauren Graham's personality in it.

I love the idea of a book subscription! Right now I am reading a lot of textbooks but in between I have been reading all of Malcolm Gladwell's books. They are insightful and really make you think. xx Rox-Anne, Celebratingthislife.ca

I love reading too but I normally only read mystery-solving books so I've practically read all of James Patterson's books. I try to read & finish a new book every week. 🙂
