James Bond Night at Rosecliff Mansion
Sharing pictures today from NewportFilm‘s 007 night at Rosecliff. I have yet to see a documentary that I didn’t love at one of their events. The featured film, Becoming Bond,
is a must see. It tells the life story of George Lazenby and how he
landed the coveted role of James Bond after Sean Connery stepped down.
Lazenby was an Australian car mechanic who had never acted a day in his
life and became an overnight star after filming Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969).
With the film’s success, Lazenby was offered a million dollar signing
bonus to star in the next seven James Bond movies — he turned it down.
In this movie George Lazenby shares his life story and finally answers
why he walked away from wealth and fame. The film was engrossing,
humorous, and risqué with a combination of face time with Lazenby and
actors reenacting scenes from his life. The film style reminded me a lot
of Wes Anderson! After every NewportFilm showing the director, or
people behind the film, are present for a Q&A. For this film, the
director Josh Greenbaum, hosted the usual Q & A with George Lazenby
on Skype. This was such a fun surprise! Looking forward to more
NewportFilm movie nights this summer.
