If you’ve been following along these past few years you might have noticed that Kiel really loves fall. He dresses for this season long before the leaves start to change. The only piece of clothing that would make him consider taking off his plaid shirt is an oversized vintage ski sweater.

During our day trip to Assisi I wore one of my favorite dresses by Verandah. I love the layered look of this tiered maxi dress and the animal print is unexpected and beautiful. The fabric is loose and really comfortable especially on a hot day. We did a lot of walking and pretty much covered the entire town exploring the shops, beautiful buildings, and the Basilica of Saint Francis. An afternoon was the perfect amount of time to spend there.

Greetings from Italia! Less than an hour before a torrential rainfall, Kiel and I set up a small picnic on a gorgeous hillside next to the villa we rented with friends and family a little outside of Cortona in Tuscany. It was the last night of our vacation and we really wanted to watch the sunset from this nearby overlook. I was expecting Tuscany to be almost completely flat and was pleasantly surprised to see mountains looming above endless hills of green and gold. Olive trees, sunflower fields, grape vines and Italian cypress trees made up a good portion of the landscape.

With August winding down and September on the horizon I’m really excited for fall. The humidity this summer has been brutal. I’ve been relishing the past couple of cool days that I know won’t last. While I’m more than ready to break out the cozy sweaters, flannels shirts, and riding boots I will realistically be wearing shorts and sundresses for at least another month.

Excited to release our Coast & Country Club Sweater Collection on Kiel James Patrick this weekend. Each sweater is manufactured in America and custom embroidered. Available in two colors — navy and cream.
We shot these sweaters aboard Temma, part of Antique Yacht Collection, in Newport. If you are planning a trip to Newport I highly recommend a chartered cruise around Newport Harbor with Captain Greg.

During our Tuscany travels we visited Montepulciano for dinner and a walk around town. The restaurant we ate at, Le Logge del VignolIa, is a favorite of our friend Jeremy’s. It’s a small, cozy venue with lots of truffle on the menu. We were seated by an open window with a beautiful view.

No Italian vacation would be complete without a cruise around town on a Vespa. I felt very much like Lizzie in the Lizzie McGuire movie. It’s the perfect vehicle to navigate narrow cobblestone roads when you’re seeking a good place to stop for gelato.
During our travels I popped into Margherita in Assisi and purchased this ensemble. The shop was a welcome surprise as most of the stores in Assisi appeared to be tourist shops selling souvenirs.

It’s nearly impossible to visit Tuscany without touring a vineyard or two. I’m not a huge red wine enthusiast but I do enjoy an occasional glass. This past winter we attended the Hasbro Children’s Hospital Heroes Ball and won an auction for this Tuscany trip. Our Tuscany package included a villa, a driver, daily breakfast, wine tours, housekeeping, and a cooking class. The two wine tours were in Montalcino, a region famous for its’ Brunello wine produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes.

I have always thought of sunflowers as the final act of Summer before Fall introduces a new palette of vibrant colors when the leaves change and the mums bloom. The rich fields of gold are at their peak towards the end of July and usually last until early Fall in New England. Locally my favorite place to see them is Dame Farm in Johnston, Rhode Island.

Snapshots from Tuscany — Kiel and I spent all of last week exploring the gorgeous Tuscan countryside. I did not expect there to be so many sunflower fields in the region. It felt like every road we turned down had another field. Up on the hillside of the villa we rented, a little outside of Cortona, we could see all of the plots of gold from a distance.
