I have always thought of sunflowers as the final act of Summer before Fall introduces a new palette of vibrant colors when the leaves change and the mums bloom. The rich fields of gold are at their peak towards the end of July and usually last until early Fall in New England. Locally my favorite place to see them is Dame Farm in Johnston, Rhode Island.

Snapshots from Tuscany — Kiel and I spent all of last week exploring the gorgeous Tuscan countryside. I did not expect there to be so many sunflower fields in the region. It felt like every road we turned down had another field. Up on the hillside of the villa we rented, a little outside of Cortona, we could see all of the plots of gold from a distance.
Some moments in time are pure magic! I will never forget a second of this past weekend celebrating our friends Alexandra and Cody’s wedding in Watch Hill at the Ocean House. If I could relive this weekend a thousand times I would. We arrived early Thursday evening to the most gorgeous rehearsal dinner on a four hundred year old farm (where two adorable baby goats in tutu’s were gifted by the groom to the bride’s parents) and we left Sunday after an ocean front brunch.

Last week we packed our bags and headed to the Berkshires for an overnight stay in Lenox, MA to experience the newly renovated Blantyre Resort and their unveiling of a Dom Pérignon Champagne bar. It’s the only Dom Pérignon inspired champagne bar in North America. We enjoyed light bites and champagne in the indoor bar, the La Cave, but there is also an outdoor bar called The Cloister.

With the 4th of July right around the corner, summer wedding season is in full swing. I have always found there to be so much more variety in dressing for a summer wedding than a winter wedding. In the fall and winter I almost always opt for a black or jeweled tone dress in emerald or navy with costume jewelry to complete the look. In the summer, dress options are endless.

Later today Kiel, Harry, and I are heading to Kennebunkport for the weekend. I’m really excited to return — it’s been a couple of years since our last visit. As I was putting together this Friday Finds edition I was inspired by our destination. Preppy nautical clothing will always hold a special place in my heart. If it has an anchor, lobster, stripes, or a sailboat I can’t resist it.

I live for our our weekends on the lake. It’s become a habit to keep my phone on the charger in my bedroom while we are relaxing outdoors. For me it’s the best way to slow down time and live fully in the moment. There are very few opportunities during the week to do this and I cherish these simpler times watching Bennie swim (she loves the water more than anything), enjoying a glass of wine at sunset, or seeing Harry laugh at a funny face his dad made.
Book: Love and Ruin by Paula McLain
Ernest Hemingway and his third wife Martha Gellhorn will be on my mind for weeks to come. Over the weekend I finished reading Love & Ruin by Paula McLain and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the extraordinary characters and events she has brought to life in this latest novel. I’ve spent the past couple of weeks obsessively googling Hemingway, Gellhorn, and WWII.
While Hemingway’s exploits and literary fame are legendary, I knew very little about Martha Gellhorn before starting this book.
